The Mischievous Dog
행실 나쁜 개
A DOG used to run up quietly to the heels of everyone he met,
and to bite them without notice.
His master suspended a bell about his neck
so that the Dog might give notice of his presence
wherever he went.
Thinking it a mark of distinction, the Dog grew proud of his bell
and went tinkling it all over the marketplace.
one day an old hound said to him:
"Why do you make such an exhibition of yourself?
That bell that you carry is not, believe me, any order of merit,
but on the contrary a mark of disgrace,
a public notice to all men to avoid you as an ill mannered dog."
Notoriety is often mistaken for fame.
어떤 개가 그가 만나는 모든 사람의 뒤를
조용히 따라다니면서 몰래 물어버리곤 했다.
그의 주인은 그의 목에다 방울을 달아서
그 개가 가는 곳마다 그가 나타났음을 알리도록 했다.
그 개는 그것을 훈장으로 생각하고, 그 방울을 자랑하면서
시장 구석구석을 딸랑 거리면서 다녔다.

악명이 가끔 명예로 오인된다.
