The Fox and the Monkey
여우와 원숭이
A MONKEY once danced in an assembly of the Beasts,
and so pleased them all by his performance
that they elected him their King.
A Fox, envying him the honor,
discovered a piece of meat lying in a trap,
and leading the Monkey to the place where it was,
said that she had found a store,
but had not used it and had kept it for him
as treasure trove of his kingdom,
and counseled him to lay hold of it.
The Monkey approached carelessly
and was caught in the trap; and on his accusing
the Fox of purposely leading him into the snare,
she replied,
"O Monkey, and are you, with such a mind as yours,
going to be King over the Beasts?"
어떤 원숭이가 짐승들이 모인 가운데 춤을 추었다,
그리고 그들 모두를 자신의 솜씨로서 즐겁게 하였으므로
그들이 그를 왕으로 선출하였다.
한 여우는, 그의 명예를 시기하여,
덫 안에 놓인 고기를 발견하고는

여우가 고의로 자신을 함정에 빠트렸다고 비난하자,
여우가 대답했다,
"오 원숭이여, 너는, 어찌 그런 어리석은 마음으로,
짐승들을 다스리는 왕이 되고자 하는가?"
