메탈을 좋아하는 사람도
메탈리카는 잘 알아도 '모터헤드'에 대해서는 잘 모르실 겁니다
메탈을 싫어하신다면 더더욱 모르고 소음으로 들리겠지만...
그러나 메탈리카의 드러머 라스 울리히가 바로 모터헤드의 팬클럽 회장이었죠.
지금이야 메탈리카가 이 계통의 독보적 존재지만요.
이 3인조 밴드는 영국에서 75년에 결성해서 80년대에 주로 활동했는데
그 당시 그들의 이름만큼 연주속도가 무척 빠르고
내뱉은 가사나 발성 모두 이목을 끌만했죠.
지금도 그렇지만 이들은 명성만큼 방송은 거의 타지를 못 했죠.
라디오 PD들이 '방송용'이 아니라고 선입견을 가졌기 때문이기도하고
이들의 비쥬얼이 대중들에게 어필하기엔 너무도 비호감인것도 사실이니까요
그러나 매니아들은 라이브 무대를 따라다니며 너무나 열광했지요.
이들의 특징은 3인조의 단점인 사운드의 빈약함을 메우기 위해서
베이스에 오버드라이브를 걸어 사운드를 풍성하게 만들고
백킹 기타의 효과를 주는 것과 특이한 보컬입니다
목이 다 쉬어서 피가 나올 것 같은 목소리지만
들을수록 사람을 끄는 매력이 있지요
메탈리카는 너무 음악이 정련되어
흠 잡을 데가 없어 좀 인간미가 없다면
모터헤드는 거칠지만 좀더 필은 꽂힌다고 할 수 있습니다
