Runaway Train / Soul Asylum Call you up in the middle of the night Like a firefly without a light You were there like a blowtorch bunin' I was a key that could use a little turnin' So tired that I couldn't even sleep So many secrets I could't keep Promised myself I would't weep one more promise I could't keep It seems no one can help me now I'm in too deep there's no way out This time I have really led myself astray Run away train never going back Wrong way on a one-way track Seems like I Should be getting somewhere Somehow I'm neither here nor there Can you help me remember how to smile Make it somehow all seem worthwhile How on earth did I get so jaded Life's mistery seem so faded I can go where no one else can go I know,what no one else knows Here I am just drownin' in the rain With a ticket for a runaway train Everything seems cut and dry Day and night. earth and sky Somehow I just don't believe it Bought a ticket for a runaway train Like a madman laughin' at the rain A little out of touch. little insane It's just easier than feelin' with the pain Runaway train never coming back Runaway train tearin' up the track Runaway train burnin' in my veins Runaway but it always seems to stay --------------------------------------------- 미국의 얼터너티브 록 밴드 Soul Asylum이 1992년 발표한 여섯번째 음반 Grave Dancers Union 의 표지사진입니다. 포동포동한 엉덩이를 드러내고 길을 따라 걸어가고 있는 두 아이가 등장하는 이 사진은 전체적으로 암울한 잿빛을 띠고 있어 왠지 모를 안타까움이 느껴지는 표지이기도 합니다 옷도 입지 못하고 신발도 신지 못한 채 황량한 기계 문명 속으로 걸어 가는 아이들의 모습이 특히 그렇지요 음반의 대표 곡인 Runaway Train 의 뮤직비디오를 보는 순간 이런 느낌은 커다란 아픔으로 변하여 다가오는데 '미국의 거리에서 백만명이 넘는 청소년들이 실종되었다 (There are over one million youth lost on the streets of America)' 뮤직비디오를 재생시키는 것과 동시에 화면을 가득히 메우며 대단히 강렬한 메세지를 한 문장으로 전달하고 있기 때문이지요 이 표지 사진은 체코 출신의 사진 작가 얀 샤우덱(Jan Saudek) 의 작품이고 뮤직비디오는 영국의 영화감독이자 뮤직비디오 감독인 토니 케이(Tony Kaye) 가 실제 실종자들의 사진을 사용하여 제작하였습니다. 뮤직비디오를 통해 사진으로 공개되었던 실제 실종자가 집으로 돌아오기도 했었으며 많은 실종자들을 찾고 기억하는데 커다란 기여를 하여 세상을 변화시키는데 한몫을 했던 노래로 평가받고 있기도 하지요...
