The Man Bitten by a Dog
개에게 물린 사람
A MAN who had been bitten by a Dog
went about in quest of someone who might heal him.
A friend, meeting him and learning what he wanted, said,
"If you would be cured, take a piece of bread,
and dip it in the blood from your wound,
and go and give it to the Dog that bite you."
The Man who had been bitten laughed at this advice and said,
"Why? If I should do so,
it would be as if I should beg every Dog
in the town to bite me."
Benefits bestowed upon the evil-disposed
increase their means of injuring you.
어떤 사람이 개에게 물려서 치료해 줄 사람을 찾고 있었다.
한 친구가 그를 만나서 치료방법을 말했다,
"만약 상처가 낫고 싶으면,
빵 한 조각을 물린 상처에서 나오는 피에 담근 뒤,
자네를 문 개에게 가서 줘 보게."
개에게 물린 사람이 그의 충고를 듣고는 웃으며 말했다,
"뭐라고? 만일 내가 그렇게 해야만 상처가 낫는다면,
마을에서 나를 물려는 모든 개에게
사정해야 될 것이 아닌가."
악한 의도로 주어지는 도움은
오하려 해로운 일을 많게 만든다.
