The Impossible Dream/ Matt Monro (Musical -Man of La Mancha 中에서) To dream the impossible dream To fight the unbeatable foe To bear with unbearable sorrow To run where the brave dare not go To right the unrightable wrong And to love pure and chaste from afar To try when your arms are too weary To reach the unreachable star This is my quest to follow that star No matter how hopeless No matter how far To fight for the right Without question or pause To be willing to march, march into hell For that heavenly cause And I know if I'll only be true To this glorious quest That my heart Will lie peaceful and calm When I'm laid to my rest And the world will be better for this That one man, scorned and covered with scars, Still strove with his last ounce of courage To reach the unreachable, the unreachable, The unreachable star To reach the unreachable star 불가능한 꿈을 이루기 위해서 패배시킬수 없는 적과 싸우기 위해서 참을수 없는 슬픔을 견뎌내기 위해서.. 용사들이 감히 갈수 없는 곳으로 전진하기 위해서.. 부당한 잘못을 바르게 하고 멀리있는 순수함과 순결함을 사랑하기 위해서.. 당신 두 팔이 많이 지쳤을때 노력하고 닿을 수 없는 별에게 도달하기 위해서.. 저 별을 쫓으라는 것이 내가 바라는 바입니다. 비록 가망이 없더라고.. 비록 멀리 있다하더라도.. 정의를 위해 싸우기 위해서.. 의심하거나 머뭇거림없이 저 신성한 근거를 위해서.. 지옥과 같은 곳으로 기꺼이 진전하는 겁니다. 난 알고 있습니다. 이렇게 영광스러운 요구에 내가 진실될 수만 있다면, 내가 죽음에 이르렀을때 내 마음은 평화롭고 차분해 질 수 있을 것을.. 세상은 이보다 나아질겁니다. 경멸과 고통으로 가득한 저 한 인간이 마지막 남은 힘을 다하여 여전히 투쟁하여 도달할수 없어 이루기 어렵고 닿을 수 없는 별에 도달하기 위해 노력했던 세상 보다.... 닿을 수 없는 별에 도달하기 위해서 --------------------------------------- 1965년 초연된 작품 Mitch Leigh가 작곡한 뮤지컬 음악중 유일하게 성공을 거둔 작품으로 1972년 Arthur Hiller에 의해 영화로 만들어 질때는 Sophia Loren이 알돈자(둘시네아) 역을 맡았고, 1992년 새로 만들어진 버젼에서는 Sheena Easton 이 출연하였지요
